Do you think society puts too much pressure on people to be in relationships and/or have children? Do you think this ostracizes people who would be perfectly content to remain single and/or child-free? Is this pressure worse around the holidays?
I don't think I have ever answered one of these but for some reason this one and a lot of the responses to it really ticked me off. It is definitely NOT society putting pressure on people to be in relationships and have children. People blame "society" for absolutely everything that goes wrong but every single person helps make society what it is. The drive to find a mate and reproduce is not from society it is from biology. It is one of our true animalistic behaviors. Maybe it is not necessarily biological to stay with one person, to dote over your young forever and all of that but it is something that every other animal in the world does. People think they are so far away from being animals, but they aren't. You are one step away from being a monkey. To keep the human race going, even though there are waaay more than plenty of this now and to pass on your genes is natural. There is absolutely nothing wrong with anyone who chooses not to have kids or who even chooses not to marry or be in a relationship but there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting it either, it's just not because society makes it that way.
